1. Joining & payments
We are Haxby Martial Arts Ltd, trading as MartialArts4U. Our correspondence address is Thorp Arch Martial Arts, Block 2, Unit E, Marrtree Business Park, Rudgate, Thorp Arch, Wetherby, LS23 7QA.
Before you pay, we explain the membership price, payment frequency, any minimum term, and the separate price and contents of your starter pack. Your joining confirmation records your chosen package and any other agreed charges. For a child’s membership, the agreement is with the parent or guardian.
2. Your cooling-off rights
If you join or buy equipment by phone or online, you normally have a statutory right to cancel without giving a reason:
- Membership bought as a separate service: the cancellation period ends 14 days after the day the agreement is made.
- Equipment: the period ends 14 days after the day you receive it. For one order delivered in separate parts, it normally runs from receipt of the last item.
- Equipment and membership sold under one combined contract: the period normally runs from receipt of the goods, rather than simply from the joining date.
These rights may last longer if the required cancellation information was not supplied. Tell us clearly that you wish to cancel before the applicable period expires.
We do not apply 30 days’ membership notice to a valid statutory cooling-off cancellation.
3. Starting training during the cooling-off period
You can ask to start training before your cooling-off period ends. We will record your express request and explain any proportionate charge that could apply if you later cancel.
Starting training or attending a class does not, by itself, remove your cooling-off rights. If you cancel, we may charge a proportionate amount for the service supplied up to cancellation, based on the agreed contract price, where legally permitted. We will explain the calculation.
No charge is payable for services supplied during that period where the required early-start request or cancellation and charging information was missing.
4. Starter-pack returns
Your pack may include a T-shirt, trousers, shorts or leggings, and boxing gloves, as confirmed when you join.
You can inspect and try on items as you reasonably would in a shop. For a statutory cooling-off return, handling beyond reasonable inspection—for example, training in the gloves or wearing and washing clothing—may justify a deduction for the resulting reduction in value. We will explain any deduction, which must reflect the actual loss in value.
We do not automatically refuse a cooling-off return because equipment has been used or cannot be resold as new. Our items have no hygiene seals, so we do not rely on the sealed-goods hygiene exception. No deduction for reduced value applies if we failed to provide the required cancellation information.
Return equipment within 14 days after notifying us of cancellation, to the correspondence address above. Include the member’s name and your contact details. You pay direct return costs only if we told you this before purchase; otherwise we cover them.
Any refund due includes the equipment price and basic delivery charge, less a lawful deduction, and uses the original payment method unless agreed otherwise. We refund without undue delay. We may withhold the refund until we receive the goods or evidence of return, whichever is earlier, and will meet the applicable 14-day refund deadline.
Outside statutory cancellation rights, we do not offer change-of-mind refunds for used or washed starter-pack items. Your rights for faulty goods, goods not as described or other legal failures remain unaffected.
5. Ordinary cancellation: 30 days’ notice
Outside a valid statutory cooling-off cancellation, we require 30 calendar days’ notice to end membership. The notice period starts when we receive your cancellation request. We will confirm the end date and explain any final payment under your agreed membership terms.
You can continue training during the notice period. Any minimum term must have been clearly agreed when you joined; this page does not introduce a new minimum term.
Cancelling a Direct Debit instruction does not, by itself, tell us to end membership. Please also contact us so we can close the membership and confirm any amount properly due. This policy does not limit other statutory rights or remedies.
6. How to cancel & refunds
Email enquiries@martialarts4u.co.uk, call 0800 069 9305, or write to our correspondence address. Give the member’s name and enough information to identify the agreement.
Email provides a useful written record. A statutory cancellation can be made by any clear statement; you do not have to use a particular form. For statutory cooling-off cancellation, it is enough to send your notice before the cancellation period ends.
We will acknowledge your request and explain the end date, return arrangements and any refund or lawful charge. A service cooling-off refund is made without undue delay and within 14 days after we are informed, subject to any lawful service charge.
If you disagree with our response, see our Complaints Process. Nothing here excludes or limits your statutory consumer rights.
7. Optional cooling-off cancellation form
You may copy this into an email or send it by post. Using it is optional.
